A vision ...
a new, state-of-the-art honey bee and pollinator research and extension facility at UF
The Florida TaxWatch report shows that choosing to build a state-of-the-art bee research and extension laboratory in Florida should have the following effects:
Outfitted with state-of-the-art equipment, research at the proposed new facility would concentrate on honey bee husbandry, biodiversity, ecology, and integrated crop pollination

Florida is the bee nursery for the US.
Beekeepers from 27 states bring approximately 280,000 to Florida for the winter, then they are shipped across the entire US for pollination service. .
Florida has the opportunity to create the premier honeybee research facility in the United States, which would help recruit and retain top researchers and students.
The new lab is critical to the future success in sustaining honey bee colonies and increasing our understanding of honey bee ecology, husbandry, conservation and integrated crop pollination.

The mission of the University of Florida's Honey Bee Research and Extension Laboratory (HBREL) is to improve the health and productivity of honey bee colonies in Florida and globally by investing in research projects focusing on honey bee husbandry, ecology, behavior, biodiversity and conservation. Members of the lab also maintain an active research program focused on integrated crop pollination. The results from the HBREL's research programs are communicated to clientele groups via targeted and multi-faceted extension efforts, thereby enhancing the sustainability of beekeeping and native pollinators and the agricultural/ecological communities both support. Furthermore, undergraduate students, graduate students, and post doctorial research fellows can receive mentoring, training, and instruction in many areas related to honey bee and native pollinator research, thus ensuring a future generation of educators, researchers, conservationists and more.
